5 Healthy food recipes for your baby

After 6 months, it is suggested that you begin feeding some top food to your baby. While formula milk can be one of the additions, including vegetables, cereals, and fruits in your baby's diet is also important. So to save your time, here are a few baby food recipes you can try. 

 

1. Ragi porridge

Take 3 tbsp fine ragi flour and add 1 cup water. Stir till there are no flour lumps. Transfer it on the stove and add 2 tsp jaggery. Stir continuously till the mixture thickens. Take off the stove and let it cool. After about 10 mins add formula milk till the porridge reaches your favored consistency. Feed while the porridge is warm.

 

2. Khichdi

This recipe is for babies above 8 months only.

Take rice and Moong Dal in 2:1 ratio. Wash them together thoroughly. Soak them in water for 30 mins in the pressure cooker you will be cooking it. After they are soaked add some fresh chopped vegetables (carrot, pumpkin, potato, etc). Cook for 3 whistles. While the khichdi is still hot, mash the mixture to a smooth paste. Add some ghee, salt, spices if you want. Feed warm. 

 

3. Carrot-Almond Paste

This recipe is for babies aged 6 months and above only.

This recipe uses the steam method. Soak a few almonds overnight and remove their skin. Take a carrot and chop into cubes. Steam carrot and almond together for 10 mins. Grind them in a mixture to make a paste. Add some warm milk and a pinch of Jaifal. Feed warm.

 

4. Sabudana Kheer

Take 2 tbsp of sabudana and a few almonds and soak them in water separately for half an hour. Cook the soaked sabudana in 1 cup water until they turn transparent. Take soaked almonds and grind them with 1 cup milk. Add this mixture in the sabudana and cook till the kheer thickens. Add some jaggery water and cardamom powder for taste. 

Note: Turn off the flame before adding jaggery water.

You can also grind the Kheer into a paste if your baby cannot swallow the kheer.

Jaggery water: Take jaggery (to taste) and melt it in boiling water. After the jaggery melts, pass the concoction through and sieve to remove impurities.

 

5. Rice-Potato Khichdi

Wash and soak 2 tbsp rice for an hour. Take the soaked rice, add 50gm chopped potato, 150 ml water, a pinch of turmeric powder, carom seeds and salt. Pressure cook for 4 whistles or until the potatoes are mushy. Mash the cooked rice and potato until a smooth mixture is formed. Add some butter or ghee before feeding.
